Speech and Debate

Oh boy. I am so far behind. I'll just begin at the beginning, which is about in January. So, for my last two years or so at college I was on the internationally-renowned Lewis & Clark Speech and Debate team. While I did debate a couple of times, I was mostly a "speechie". Being on the team, I got a scholarship every semester and got to travel ALL AROUND THE US, just about every weekend.

In the first photo, you'll find my fellow speechie Tess, resting during a debate round during which we would have lots of free time. In this photo, we were in Salt Lake City. Tess and I had planned to debate together during this tournament, but she fell terribly ill with strep throat and we weren't able to. Oh well. We were sharing a bed at the hotel, and I didn't catch her contagion, so really I consider myself pretty lucky. In the second photo, you'll see Meredith, Ben, Evan, and Amy at the San Diego airport where we'd gone for the RATHER IMPORTANT Point Loma tournament. In the third photo, you have Amy, me, and Coach Kyle waiting for the awards ceremony to begin at the Southwestern Speech tournament, which happens in San Diego the day before the Point Loma tournament starts. I'd been in the finals of Program Oral Interpretation, so I was rather excited. The fourth photo is my accepting my award. I'm the turquoise in the sea of black, which was kind of typical of my garb at Speech and Debate competitions. The fifth photo is my kissing my little trophy. At those two tournaments in San Diego, I went to finals in an event both days, of which I was VERY PROUD, since speechies from the Northwest tend to not do very well in national competition.

You should have told me you were in San Diego, I would have gone to watch you.
